Welcome

My Invitation — I hope you will come and try some of the classes, offerings and discussion groups at Container & the Field Yoga and become part of this community.  My intention is to offer opportunities to AWAKEN (investigate, invigorate, inform, and strengthen) and FIND RENEWAL (get quiet, breathe, listen and recharge).  I hope we will share in meaningful conversation, discover fruitful insights, and connect with others.

A dedicated yoga practice will begin to strengthen our container, our inner journey to know well our physical self, mind and soul and from this inner clarity we will begin to develop equilibrium with the often turbulent field of our experience in the world. Both inner and outer work can feel like a wilderness and yet the path of yoga guides us through breath by breath.

If you have any questions about the information listed here please email, text, or leave a message and I will get back to you.

If you would like to know more about my approach to teaching and my yoga philosophy, please read my blog.

Classes

CLASSES

Yoga Flow (All-Level)
This moderate class offers someone newer to yoga or someone building their practice, an experience in which they can hone their yoga skills and knowledge (breath techniques, postures, balance and meditation) with a pacing that invites self- observation. This class is taught with the focus on: breath awareness, anatomical alignment, and offers modifications to deepen and soften into the shapes.

Slow Flow (Intermediate)
This intermediate Vinyasa based yoga class offers both challenging flowing sequences as well as points of longer holding. Each week’s class is creative and always changing. A slow, flowing Vinyasa offers challenges in balance, focus and builds strength.

Yin Yoga (All-Level)
A yielding practice and a good compliment to a flow-based, Yang style, yoga practice, or any physically active exercise. Yin Yoga is sometimes called Passive Yoga or Taoist Yoga. Most of our active western yoga teaching focuses on postural yoga which is dedicated to developing muscles and will, while yin is a yielding practice that works the ligaments, tendons, joints and networks of fascia all throughout the body. Yin Yoga can be a quiet practice, offering time for observation and the seeds of meditation.

Yoga Nidra, Dynamic Sleep
Nidra is a guided meditation technique focused on learning conscious relaxation. In his book on yoga nidra Swami Satyananda Saraswati states that, “The characteristic feature of yoga nidra was a systematic rotation of consciousness in the body, which originated from tantric practices of nyasa (meaning ‘to place’ or ‘to take the mind to one point’.)” The practitioner, hearing the words of the teacher, brings their mind to each point mentioned, and as one listens and follows from point to point, a meditative focus is created and the body then begins to relax. In his teaching, Swami Satyananda, points out that we live in a nearly constant state of tension – muscular, emotional and mental. Nidra is a practice that can begin to bring harmony to the mind and body.

The Space

The Space

I am so pleased to be able to welcome yogis to practice with me. I have created a space for yoga classes and private lessons in a renovated Flag Factory in Collegeville that was converted into live/work spaces. The building is at the corner of W. Fourth Avenue and Chestnut Street.

The room is spacious, has original wood floors, and lovely light. Each class can accommodate 8 yogis. This intimate class size is conducive to deeper teaching, assisting and inviting students to dwell in their own experience and share. Abundant street parking surrounds the building.

Biography

I am a lover of nature and while I enjoy the expansive views mountains offer, it is the wee little flowers and plants in these wild places that reveal exquisitely formed patterns in how they grow, which draw my attention. I learned as a child the skillful patterns of physical movement and of seeing and making artistic images and objects with my hands; and over the years I have found joy and amazement in both making art and practicing yoga. My teaching is braided together by 3 understandings: that everything is spiritual, everything is connected, and everything changes (sometimes by conscious choice, by a gift-like surprise, or by unpredictable life storms). I teach what I practice; I work with self-study, pranayama, physical asana, contemplation, study and meditation.

I teach yoga because I love how it feels in my body; I have found it a viable vehicle towards change and transformation in my own life. I am so grateful for the dedicated teachers/seekers I have been blessed to study with along the way: I would have little to offer if it were not for their dedicated practice, study, and willingness to share and teach. May we come to know our inner-selves so deeply that we can live the life that we passionately seek.

Training

Alongside my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training, completed at Samadhi Yoga Studio in Manchester, CT (2010) and my 300 hour training completed with Yoganand Michael Carroll and Pranakriya Yoga (2017), I have taken CE credits in: Yin Yoga Training with Corina Benner, Meditation at the Yoga Life Institute, Re-Imagining Alignment with Leslie Kaminoff, Fly Yoga Immersions and Workshops with Sherry Sidoti, and Chakra Yoga training with Anodea Judith, and Broga Yoga Training with Robert Sidoti. And, whenever I travel, I always visit local yoga studios to experience how the yoga is being lived out and shared.

Experience

Since I completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training, I have offered over 3,000 hours of teaching at traditional yoga studios, gyms, in private 55+ communities, for churches and community groups seeking a spirit-based practice, for school teachers seeking stress reduction, movement, athletes seeking balance and effective stretching and those looking to develop a practice of healing self-care. I work with private clients – many of which are dealing with various issues like MS, stress management /anxiety, pain, sports injuries and post-surgery concerns. I created a program in Connecticut called Yoga for Food that for 6 years gave all proceeds from my teaching of a Community Yoga Circle, back to those in the community who were in need of assistance. I have hosted or been an additional presenter at retreats. In connecting with a nidra tradition which offers ways to deeply relax and de-stress, I have found a niche offering a meditation practice of Yoga Nidra.
